Crafts and Photo Shoots

Tuesday night youth group last night! The first time in two years that I have really been at youth group for the entire time as a real leader, without Quinny! I was sad to leave her behind, but it was really fun to just get into it and hang out with the youth with no distractions!
Group shot at the end of the night!
Lovely Dixie offered to watch Q that night for me. Having a friend who knows us so well and can look at our life and see what we need, and offer to help is such an amazing gift. She is so thoughtful! And she genuinely really likes hanging out with Quinny, so thats a plus! They went to the beach and watched Edgar kayak and they played and Dixie did bedtime with her and she was sleeping by the time I got home! Dixie said she was amazing, happy the whole night and went to bed with no issues and fell asleep right away! Awesome!! I love that she's so easy to put to bed (usually!). It makes leaving her easy! Also, she's still getting up at least once in the night so I knew it would be too many hours before I saw her again ;) Having Dixie offer to take Q and then talk about the fun they had just made me love being a part of this community all over again. We miss our families so much sometimes and we really are so disconnected from them at times - but we know that this is where we are supposed to be, and God is providing for us by giving us real, genuine, loving relationships. Community takes a lot of hard work, and a lot of time and effort into building it, it doesn't come easily, but it is truly a beautiful thing.
Wednesday morning Jacob and Hannah came over - I am liking having them so far! Its just once a week from 815-215 so its not a long time and they are easy kids. Q loves to sort and organize, so I bought pom poms and put them into an egg carton and let her have at it. She sorted by size and then by color and then by putting two in each egg hole. Its funny to me what she enjoys and the things that make her happy (like this strawberry shortcake shirt that she is wearing... she is in LOVE with strawberry shortcake at the moment!!)
Look at Hannah's happy smile!!! What a cutie!!!!
Quinny gets very maternal with Hannah - she hugs her constantly and gets upset when Hannah cries, and she brings her toys and tries to make her laugh. She's also always trying to help her - but at 16 months old, Hannah is at the "I'm independant and want to do everything on my own" stage and doesnt always appreciate Q's help. Its funny to watch them figure it out!
Another page on the Quiet Book - match the socks to the right pair. The matching socks go in the basket when she's not playing with it
Q can's quite reach the ground well enough in this bike to push herself and she hasn't figured out the whole peddling thing. Jacob came up with a brilliant plan all on his own - if he goes behind her, he can push them both. Oh man, they were both giggling so much and having fun. Q was being bossy and directing him on where to go and Jacob would oblige. So so so so cute!!

We have peppers!!! After months of thinking that this plant wasn't going to produce anything, I was so happy when I found a new peppers starting to grow on it!! Yay!!!!
Mess-less finger painting! I cut down a piece of construction paper, stuck it in the ziploc bags with a few squirts of paint in each, zipped them up and tapped them shut and then tapped the bags to the table. They had a great time painting their pictures!!

They wanted to do more, so I set another one up. It was a great activity for them to do while Hannah napped and we needed it to be quiet in the house. When they were done, I took the bags outside, cut the sides, took the paper out and set it out to dry, rinsed the bags and put them in the recycle bin! Voila!
I also made these for them - cardboard in the middle and then construction paper glued to them to make them colorful and look nicer. Hole punched holes and gave them pipe cleaners and away they went! Jacob was better at threading the pipe cleaner than Q was... they might be the exact same size, but the year age difference does show itself in times like these! But they both had fun doing it
That evening Tim called and was on his way home from Mt Washington - he drove a group up there for work and he wanted to stop by super quickly and let Q see the bus. He knows how much she loves the bus, and I love that he just wanted to bring her joy and see her quickly. What a good Papa! He honked as he was coming up the hill and she squealed with delight while yelling "PAPAS BUS! PAPAS BUS!!" We fed him a quick dinner and then he let Q explore for a few minutes and then off he was to get home. Nice to see him for a few minutes!
Then that night Q decided to have a photo shoot with her babies (even though she doesn't even know what 'photo shoot' means haha!). She made all of us hold the baby and pose while she held 'her phone' and took our pictures. I got a few super funny videos of her setting the baby up in different poses - in the high chair, in the stroller, on the bed, on the couch... she would say "okay say cheese baby!" and would "take" the picture with the fake phone. Totally hilarious. The things this kid comes up with kill me! I told Jon that maybe she is going to be a future photographer... he told me that maybe I have just taken WAY too many pictures of her in the past two years... haha!! Never too many pics ;)
