I was hearing good things about the new dentist in Chemainus, and seeing as how I haven't been to a dentist the entire time Jon and I have been married, I figured we should book in while he was taking new patients and get a cleaning done! I used to LOVE the dentist. I am not joking, although people usually assume that I am when I say that. I have always been obsessive over my teeth - I brush more times in a day then I want to admit and I go through tooth brushes so quickly. I enjoy flossing and I worked hard to have my teeth as straight as they are! (thank you braces!). I like how it feels when they are working because it means the payoff will be so good and I will have a sparkly smile haha. I also like how it feels once they are done working, how clean and fresh my mouth feels! I don't feel like these are weird things, but I know that I am one of few who likes going to the dentist. But this appointment I was dreading a little bit... its been SIX years! Who knows what they will say to me about my mouth?! I booked Q in as well, because now that she has all her teeth (she actually has had them all for months, she got her last set of 2 year molars when she was 17 months old) I figured it would be a good thing to get them all checked!
She did so so so so good!! She opened up for them and listened well and didn't seem afraid at all. And she was stoked when they gave her a new toothbrush and a treasure when she left (she also loves tooth brushes and brushing her teeth!). They said her mouth looks great and her teeth are really clean! Yay!They did my exams since I'm a new patient and then did the cleaning.... they told that they would think its been months since I've been to a dentist, not years! I felt so proud haha! No cavities, and pretty clean gums and teeth. Woot! I told Jon (who is terrified for his appointment next month) that regular brushing and flossing does make a difference and if he did that, maybe he wouldnt be so afraid to go? He responded by telling me that I am a show off and that the only reason I like the dentist is because of the positive affirmation I get when I go there, that it appeals to my over achiever side of my personality LOL! They did tell me when I went in that my back tooth has a little crack and that another tooth is quite worn down because I am a "clencher" - I didn't say a word about my medical history, and she said to me that she's surprised I don't wake up with migraines in the middle of the night, or in the morning. EXCUSE ME?!!! When I informed her that I actually do indeed wake up with them, often, she told me that this probably plays a role in that! She said it probably won't take my headaches away, but that having a mouth guard could drastically help with them!! I told her that I've been getting them since I was 7, HOW HAS NO DENTIST EVER TOLD ME THIS BEFORE??!!! She said she wasn't sure, but that I do indeed clench and grind. Okay, so HOOK ME UP WITH A MOUTH GUARD PLEASE! It takes two appointments and over $500.... sigh. Figures. With this $200 dentist bill and no medical or dental coverage, we can't afford that at the moment. But we will save and get me one ASAP!
After the dentist on Thursday, I had to run to get to town for work - I was teaching a Home Alone course to pre-teens. Talk about hilarious. They were full of energy and crazy questions. It was a fun course! I would definately teach that one again. While I was doing that, Jon and Q spent the evening together, having adventures as they usually do!
Sushi snack! I so love that we have a kid who eats anything and everything. Sushi? No problem! She just dives right in!
Making iced tea! When she helps with this, she always talks about her Nannie and "Nannie's iced tea and ice eat"... She likes to eat the ice from Nannie's iced tea and she always lets her :) Its their thing
How totally incredible that we live somewhere that going to the ocean is just part of normal daily routine? The amazing-ness of that is never lost on me. These pictures that he sent me of their daddy/daughter date just amazed me. What an awesome island and a good life.
Best picture of her that I have seen in a long time!! My favorite. She is so beautiful!!!!!
He let her pick out a milk to go with their snack (we are those parents...no juice, but you can have milk! haha! How long until she revolts against us?!) - normal, vanilla or strawberry. She picked strawberry (gross!!!!) and apparently downed it!When I got home, it was dance party time! We jumped and twirled and danced around! Jon has a really funny video of her singing along and getting so into it! Besides Let it Go, her favorite songs of the moment are Bad Blood by Taylor Swift and Sugar by Maroon 5... I realize that the fact those are her favorites and the ones that she asks for speaks volumes about my parenting... and not necessarily in a good way haha!! She knows words in the songs and sings them, and can stay on beat and dances like a crazy girl! I love it. She also knows the words to "It is Well (with my soul)" By Bethel, so I figure that balances it out haha! We listen to all kinds of music in this house.
Silly after bathtime girl!
Our garden has also produced carrots!! I thought our garden was dead and done for, seeing as how I neglected it for so much of the summer. What a happy surprise to see that it is yielding produce!
Family movie night that night - she could pick, but it wasn't allowed to be one that she owned. We went on netflix and I have her three options and she chose Madagascar 2. She was so into it with all the talking animals. We all actually enjoyed it haha
I made us kettle corn and we snuggled... I love that she's getting big enough for nights like this. Moments like this feel perfect and content.
She got herself dressed the next morning... Umm baby, you are missing something important....
Early morning doctor appointment check up! She did great here too - sat really still and breathed big when she was asked to. She is a really good listener in these situations. When Jon asked her afterwards how the doctor was it, she mimicked putting the stethescope on and breathing deeply haha
Then time for gymnastics!!
She does so good. She had a hard time focusing today because she knew we were going to Nannie and Papa's after gymnastics, but overall she still did really good. I love doing this with her.
Nobody was home when we got there, so we sat in the warm sunshine and played in the yard for a long time! So relaxing and nice.
She wanted her shirt off too, like daddy! Jon and I played volleyball in the yard and she got mad after a while because she was getting the ball, so we had to give up and play a game that she could play too haha! One day those types of games will be fun for all of us to play!
Jon announced a soccer game at UVIC that night and I hung out at the house with Lois. It was really nice to catch up with her and talk - it has really been a while since we have all been down to stay over night! We missed them! Lots to talk about. I love my mother in-law. Talking with her fills my soul and she gives such good advice. There is an honesty to our relationship that I really appreciate.
