Annual DDMM Hornby Weekend Getaway!

Early morning breakfast dates! They are my favorite.
Perfect eye-sight for little monkey girl!

Jon took Quinnlyn on an adventure as I headed out to Hornby Island for the weekend with Mary, Dana and Dixie for our annual weekend away! Some cute pics of their adventure together

I love that he is the dad that puts her first, always. And that he will do fun things with her, and take her out in nature, and just connect with her. I love him so much for the kind of dad he is.
 LOVE THESE LADIES!

It is just so beautiful here. And it makes it even more so that time spent is so refreshing and relaxing.
Jon and Andrew made plans to go the petting zoo, and then Aimee came over and wanted to join and she invited Luke and the girls, so then it was a petting zoo party!

Quinny was talking about this for days afterwards! The goat parade! haha! Jon said they had a great afternoon
Little Holly. I love you! Look at those eyes. She is so sweet!
Eston was playing in the All-Star game in Vic, so Andrew and Jon took the girls to that after the petting zoo. Jon said Ady was cold, so Quinny laid her sweater on her. Their friendship is adorable!!!
Just some cuddles as they got tired watching the game. I can't wait until they are older and we can show them these pics haha!
Sitting around the cozy living room, around the fire, chatting and drinking coffee/tea. Baring our souls to each other, filling each other with so much love and laughing. Amazing weekend.
Sunday morning Quinny and Jon went for a walk with Nannie! Aren't these two so beautiful?! Q missed her Nannie so much while she was gone in March and talked about her all the time, so this was a pretty cute pic for me to get! Love these two! I have the best Mother-In Law. I am also glad she is home! During the week, I usually call or text a few times just to chat, and check in. I missed her! Also, this picture is just my favorite of them.
I had found out just a few days before the trip that our second IUI had failed. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I was so sad, totally devastated. It just feels like our dream of another baby is so far beyond our reach. It is hard to know to do - do we keep pouring so much money into these treatments? Do we start looking at adoption? We know that we want another child, we just are unsure of the path. And my heart. And I am really tired from all this. Anyways, so because of that, I almost didn't go on the weekend away, I wanted to stay home and just rest and be by myself. But these women convinced me to come, and I did, and I am so so so so glad that I did. I needed them. I needed their love and their wisdom and their laughter. Their friendship is life-giving and I needed to breathe it in. God knows. And I am thankful. This weekend came at perfect timing and was with the exact right people. Thank you, DDM for being who you are, and for loving me through everything, and walking this path right beside me.

What month is it?!

After they left, the rest of March just flew by! All of a sudden we were onto April... it is crazy how fast time goes!!

Drawing pictures is one of her favorite things to do these days. She draws, writes letters, cuts things out, uses stickers. I love watching her concentrate. And its even better when she has a stuffie strapped to the front of her in the baby carrier haha! Little multi-tasker - getting things done while putting her "baby" to sleep haha! I love it.
Aimee wanted to come up and go on an adventure one day while she was on spring break, but with my dad here the one week it didn't really work out, because she spent most of the second week babysitting the girls. But we still wanted her to come if possible! So she packed them up and Calea too, and they came one morning and spent a few hours. We went to Ladysmith bakery and then watched a movie (it was pouring rain outside which dashed our plans for an outdoor day).
Cuddles with KK. These two rarely, if ever these busy days, get time together, so I think it was nice for both of them to get in some cuddling time while watching the movie! I love seeing her bond with her Aunties.
Quinny cried when they left, because she wanted to go with her Aunties like her cousins were... so sad! I hate the distance between us! I wish I could have sent her for the day to spend more time with them! We promised that they would see each other soon!
Little mechanic! She takes her tools and tinkers around under the quad haha. Just when I think I have her all figured out, she does things like this that totally surprise me!
Dixie took this on Tuesday night when she was babysitting. So very sweet! I know I say it a lot, but I have the greatest friends. They step in and astound us with their kindness! So thankful for friends who give up their tuesday evenings to watch this girl so that we can serve at the church.
Mail from Nannie and Papa in Hawaii! She was over the moon about it, as you can tell!

I forgot to take pictures while we were out, but Eric invited us to go bowling with them for Jerrica's birthday. So fun! Because I ask my friends to give up Tuesdays already for free babysitting, we didn't want to ask them again. So we decided to bite the bullet this time and hire a babysitter. Leighanne is amazing. I have gotten so close with this sweet girl over this year, and she lives right around the corner and was eager to come babysit. Quinny was pretending to be sleeping and hanging on tight when we got home, because she didn't want Leighanne to leave haha. That is the sign of an excellent babysitter! The few hours out was really lovely, and its nice to know she was home having fun.
Tim and Lois came home at midnight Friday night, so we went down so we could see them Saturday for a few hours after their almost month away! The cutie 3 & 4 year olds hit the hot tub. These two are playing together so well these days. It's so much less stressful than it was a few months ago! Yay!
We came back Saturday and I went to  Kelly's bachelorette party, and Jon went to the Easson's for dinner and a walk!
I spent the evening with these lovely ladies celebrating Kelly's upcoming wedding! Wonderful camp friends.
After dinner we went to 4cats for a painting night! This sort of thing was super fun, and very up Kelly's alley... but it was pretty stressful for me because I am not a go with the flow kind of worker. I like set direction and to know what exactly I am supposed to be doing. I'm also just not that artistic haha! Crafty, sure. Artistic, not a chance. So it was out of my element, but I laughed a lot at myself, and it was fun to see everyone working hard
We also got a work on a giant canvas painting for Kelly, which was so sweet! I love throwing paint! haha! And this woman is one of my favorites, so anytime with her is a plus! Isn't she gorgeous?! Man I love her!
The McKnight's invited us to one of the Sunday night family dinners. Jacob is away, finally in the military as a Med Tech after all his hard work! But Laura reached out and asked us to come, so we gladly accepted! They do dinner with all their kids (7 of them) minus Jacob since he's away, every single Sunday, including the girlfriends. Maggie and Mariah are the only girls, and they are still young, so no boyfriends to include just yet. I LOVE the idea of Sunday night family dinners. A time each week to connect and check in and know that you will all be together. Alex (Jacob's girlfriend) lives in Victoria, and she drives up to Nanaimo every single week to be at these dinners. Amazing. This is something I definitely want to do when my kid(s) are grown, if they on the island. Laura said to me that evening "everyone needs to check in with mom, and just feel like they belong somewhere, even when there's hard stuff going on and maybe they don't want to come. It's a time for them to come, be fed, be together". I love it so much. I often get so lonely because weeks will pass before we see any family, with how busy things get, and I just ache for this kind of connection. I look forward to  the day when our kids are grown and we can start traditions like this with our adult children!

The night itself was SO good. Life-giving. Laura and I had a very long, and open conversation where we both cried as we shared what is going on with each of us, and our families. The girls played with Q the whole night! We just love this family so much. Jacob is family to us, and so his family is also family, and I am grateful that they feel the same!
Mark put music on at the end of the night, and him and Quinny had an EPIC dance party! She was so sweaty when we left! haha! I love how this family just loves her so much. They even still had her baby picture on their fridge! Adorable. But it did make us miss Jacob a lot! Jon especially is missing his friend.
Swimming lesson time! She is still in Salamander, working hard to pass this level! This is apparently one of the harder ones to pass, because there is a big jump between Salamander and Star Fish in what they need to be able to do. She has been working so hard and the improvements are huge! She loves swimming. We are very excited for the summer!
Quinny and her beloved Lambie! Geez this kid is beautiful. And so silly!
I love these shots of her haha! I asked her to smile so she did, and then the next second struck a pose. Love her! And look at that bun. I will forever, for the rest of my life, be envious of her incredible hair!

We were a bit early for swimming lessons, so more silly pictures! Her sass is at a high mark these days - she is so quick-witted, and the things that come out are unbelievable sometimes! I've noticed such a difference lately in her mental maturity - she just seems older once again. She is losing all signs of being a toddler, and just growing into a full blown preschooler. I love her and her goofiness, and wouldn't change one thing about her vibrant and intense personality.

Dad and Raquel and Taylor come visit!

My Dad and Raquel came to visit for a week over spring break. It was nice that I had some time off! Timing worked out nicely! Jon had his last hockey game of the season the second night they were here, and he really wanted us to come watch. So we went for a while and cheered him on. He has improved SO MUCH since he first started playing!
LOVE this picture of them. I am so thankful for them and the role they play in Quinny's life! She adores them. It was super fun to have them around!
The weather wasn't great (ugh this winter that will never end!) while they were here, so we did lots of indoor things. We went shopping, went out for lunch, played games at home. The one afternoon, Raquel surprised me and booked her and I into the super fancy Tigh-Na-Mara spa for massages! YES! Whenever you get any treatment there, you also get to use the mineral pool before or after a treatment. LOVELY!!!! Raquel and I don't spend much one on one time together, so it was pretty nice to chat and just relax. The boys went to Coombs, and then played at the beach/park in Parksville while we were there.
She loves her Grandpa Chuck so much, and he just dotes on her. It's adorable. Watching them together makes my heart soften, and I see the positive benefit of their relationship. He loves her without question, and would do anything for her. I am so thankful for that.
On our way back from Parksville, we made a "stop" at the airport so that Raquel could "go pee". I had been saying all week that I was suspicious that Taylor was coming, but they kept saying no. When she walked out of the airport, I just started laughing! I KNEW IT! I was so happy to see her! She has had such a rough few months, and it was so nice to hug her and just spend time together. We played lots of games, which was so fun! So much laughing.
Dinner at Gina's, this amazing Mexican restaurant in Nanaimo! Amazing.
This little girl was SO happy to have her "Auntie Taydor" around! They were glued to each other.
Friday we packed up and headed to Vancouver! They were having an indoor carnival in BC Place, so we decided to go check it out. It was similar to the fair that we have here, only WAY bigger. And WAY too many people haha. Quinny LOVES rides, so she was super happy the whole day, running from one to the next.
The three of us and Jon all went on the Strawberries... we were spinning it pretty quickly (Jon wanted to puke), but Quinny kept saying we needed to spin faster. Sheesh! haha

So I didn't get any pictures, just a video... but there was this ride, and then a bigger version of it (this one was already quite big for the 'small' one! It had a huge drop!). It went up, and comes straight down. Q saw it, and only had eyes for that ride, she wanted to go on right away. We said NO WAY to the giant one (Jon, Tay and I did the giant one, and we all felt sick for a while afterwards haha) so she was finally happy to just do the smaller one. She giggled the entire time and got off and wanted to go on again right away. She loves the adrenaline rush! haha.

She wanted to get her face painted at the end of the day, so we waited in that line before we left. It had been a full, busy day! And we were laughing at her as she was getting this done, because I am pretty sure she fell asleep. She had to keep her eyes closed, and after a few minutes, her mouth fell open and her body totally relaxed. Too cute. Big day for the three year old!

Matching little butterflies!
She won this "poop" pillow, and just thought that was funniest thing ever. She had her choice of stuffies and she immediately went for this one. The poop emoticon is her favorite one and she sends it whenever she texts someone, usually Auntie Shelby or Nannie haha!

Inside the Strawberry. Super fun day! We went for sushi dinner and then just hung out in the hotel that night.
The next morning Tay wanted to go to Jericho Beach, so we headed out that direction, and found a little cafe for breakfast.
Beach time!

Then time to hit the Aquarium! We got to use our seasons pass for the first time! We need to make sure we go three more times this year to make it worth it. We love this place

As she was doing this, she says to me "Mama, I want to help sick animals feel better when I am big and go to work." I love the kind heart on this kid.
Waiting to get in to see the sting rays!

LOVE LOVE LOVE you little sister!!!

For their last night in town, my dad really wanted to take us the the Sawmill Taphouse in Chemainus. That place is so delicious - they have the best oven roasted pizza!
And their selection of beers is huge, and they do these samplers. You can get lots of local beers (including some from the new brewery right here in Chemainus!) and ciders too. Pretty great restaurant.

These two did so much for us while they were here! My Dad and I have come a long way. It's really nice. Looking forward to their next visit!
These two cuties had sleepovers the whole weekend. We were going to make Taylor another bed on the air mattress but she said she was happy to share with her little niece. Pretty cute! Quinny takes up the whole bed haha!
One last family group shot!
